THANK YOU FOR
YOUR SUPPORT
BE A CHORAL ANGEL!
Please help to keep us singing
The welfare of the Choral Society is ultimately dependant on your valued patronage of our concerts, your support for our fund-raising activities and your generous personal donations. Thanks to you, in our 66th Season of Masterworks we are able to present a concert series of outstanding breadth.
With your support, we are able to fund choral scholarships that attracts gifted, young singers to the choir and through our "New Discovery" Audition for Young Artists, we will continue to bring you exciting young Canadian artists, such as mezzo Hélène Couture, and baritone Peter McGillivray (remember - you heard them first on the stage of the OCS!). As well, we are able to engage Ottawa’s finest instrumentalists.
The Choral Society is quite unique as a performing arts organization in that we continue to operate successfully with a 100% volunteer management structure. One of our principal tenets, (of significant fiscal impact), has been an unwavering commitment to ensuring accessibility, both for our concert going public and also the choir membership, particularly youth and those on a fixed income. Ticket revenue from OCS concert productions typically covers only one third of the artistic and production expenses we incur in mounting our richly diverse programs. To bridge the gap of nearly $100,000, we depend on a variety of partnerships: artistic collaborations, government and corporate funding and our ambitious fundraising projects. Of vital importance is our annual appeal to our core of caring donors, people like you, for whom choral music and singing plays an important part in their lives.
You may be familiar with the term “Broadway Angels”… they are the investors who “light up” New York’s theatre district. By investing in the OCS, you become our Choir Angels. We rely on your faithful support to finance new initiatives, such as our choral bursaries and the addition of a professional vocal coach, programmes that are critical to the success of our long-term strategy for artistic renewal. The rich fruits of these targeted investments are only just beginning to be harvested.
Your investment in the Choir’s future makes us able to return to you the kind of musical experiences that will leave you with the memory of heightened emotion that we see on your faces after concerts. This wonderful note arrived the morning after our February concert:
“Huge bouquets to the Ottawa Choral Society for one of the richest, most glorious concerts I’ve attended. The Mass in C Major was sublime – 140 voices singing so divinely together must surely have wakened Beethoven from his slumbers – to marvel at such beauty. The Hatzis was powerful and inspiring. The orchestra, the choir and the soloist were all called upon to perform feats of immense challenge and Maryem Tollar simply made me weep with her amazing portrayal of the Magdalena.
What an evening! Congratulations and many thanks – Epharisto poli!”
Your continuing investment in the Ottawa Choral Society will help us to go on making music that will create for you that same intense pleasure and emotion. We thank you for taking the time to read this appeal and we urge you to take a minute now, before it is misplaced, to complete the attached donor form and send us your gift. We hope, also, that you will reserve our dates on your calendar and will be a member of our subscriber family when our 65th Season of great Masterworks begins on October 16th!
