Choral Music Commissioning

An important aspect of the Ottawa Choral Society’s mandate is to commission and perform choral works by Canadian composers.  Under its auspices, the OCS has been proud to introduce important new music by leading Canadian composers such as Derek Holman, Scott Tresham, John Burge, Matthew Larkin and Christos Hatzis.  In February 2012, the choir will present the world premiere performance of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam by Ottawa composer Andrew Ager.

Choral music commissioning achieves a number of important objectives, including:

·        Continuing to sustain a vibrant choral music scene for Ottawa’s music lovers;

·        Advancing the excellence of the choir’s artistic programming;

·        Expanding the choir’s outreach programme to serve suburban communities and neighbouring cities and towns;

·        Collaborating with local, regional and national musical organizations to present innovative, large-scale choral masterpieces to music lovers in Ottawa.
