AFRICAN SANCTUS BY DAVID FANSHAWE
We enter Africa to witness village life along the Nile where the late British composer David Fanshawe spent many years recording the primitive, shattering sounds of its peoples. His 'African Sanctus' brings classical artists and rock musicians together to beckon you into the authentic heart of Africa, decoding its rich tapestry of life and giving you glimpses of its eternal ceremonies - the Imam's sunrise call to prayer, an Egyptian wedding ceremony, the holy moment of a Sudanese child's birth that invokes the memory of another holy birth ...
To open the concert, we welcome our young guests Ottawa's Baobab Youth Drummers who have drummed and danced alongside African children in Ghana and are living out Fanshawe's vision of a future where people of all ages and cultures are learning to live in harmony.
